On a small block in central Brisbane, Hutchinson Builders is tackling one of South Brisbane’s most closely watched developments — a 121.5m tall cylindrical cluster tower comprising of 286 one, two and three-bedroom apartments.
Several other significant projects are ongoing on adjacent lots. This dense volume of builds has necessitated continuous traffic management on the already busy inner-city road, creating a space premium for access and equipment.
Rather than larger containerised power systems situated on the roadside, Hutchinson installed an E-Gen300 in the basement of the building, made possible by the unit’s size — a 10th of a 10-foot containerised alternative.
Situating the unit in the basement prevents tampering and removes the risk of damage from heavy delivery vehicles and the public using the road outside.
When it comes time to remove the unit, it can easily be maneuvered using a trolley jack and picked up by a forklift or telehandler and placed on the bed of a small truck.
The E-Gen300 currently powers a Moritsch RTL325A luffing crane and two Pega 28–37 hoists, typically calling for over 400kVA. Despite power peaks of 218kW and 388A, the unit has maintained an average state of charge of 79.4% with an uptime of 100%.
